Awaiting visitors to the "Age of Mammals" exhibition at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County are the fossilized skeletons of an American mastodon <i>(Mammut americanum)</i>, left, and  a mountain deer <i>(Navahoceros fricki)</i>. The exhibit opens July 11 in the recently renovated northern wing of the museum's original building in Exposition Park.
