Since the start of the year, 13 days have been above 50 degrees. A total of 20 days have been above 45 degrees. That warmth has lead to many plants making an early appearance.

The problem is, winter isn't over. Freezing temps will happen again.
"People are concerned that they may be damaged by the weather and the cold when it returns and want to know what they can do," said Darmer.
And the thing that makes the most sense would be to protect the plant.
"When the weather gets cold again we can put our coat back on but the bulbs can't retreat back in the ground," said Darmer.
But believe it or not, ground cover isn't the answer.
Darmer's advice is simple, "let nature take its course."
By adding leaves or mulch you are only assisting in the growth which is something you don't want to happen when a hard freeze comes in again.
"It will produce new leaves as real spring gets here," said Darmer.
Darmer said not to worry, especially if the flowers aren't visible. The leaves will wilt with the next hard freeze and grow again when spring comes in for real.
We also asked about plants that have visible flowers already. For those, Darmer suggested cutting the flower and bringing it inside. If we get a hard freeze, that flower will not come back this season.
