Thousands of pounds of food leftover after all the Super Bowl festivities is being donated to help feed the hungry in Indianapolis.

Everything from the fancy to the hearty is being reclaimed, nothing is going to waste.

"When people were paying the ticket prices that they were paying certainly they didn't want to run out of food," said Jennifer Vigran, Second Helpings. "They ordered a lot of food. Indianapolis has really been the beneficiary."

Second Helpings has reclaimed about 35,000 pounds of food. Tuesday, they were at The Huddle picking up what's left. Volunteers weren't just busy Tuesday, though.

"Over the weekend when everyone was at parties, our staff was out picking up food from events often the day after," said Vigran.

Everything from fancy cheeses to lobster and shrimp, veggies and even frog legs! These special ingredients not only feed hungry people, but they teach students at Second Helpings’ culinary training program how to work with things they wouldn't otherwise get access to. Some of the food is going to the freezer for now while other food is getting prepped now.

"Food is going to shelters, senior centers, children's programs, like low-income daycare centers. We provide that food free of charge," said Vigran.

Each pound represents one hungry person and with the thousands of pounds brought in after the big game, that's a lot warm meals on the table.

"Hunger happens 365 days a year. It's not just Super Bowl and holidays. Our volunteers are here every day addressing hunger and that's an important thing for all of us," said Vigran.
